Kia’s highly anticipated compact electric SUV, the EV3, appears to be making its way to the American market.
Recently leaked footage shows a camouflaged version of the EV3 being test-driven on U.S. roads, sparking widespread excitement among EV enthusiasts. While Kia has yet to confirm a launch date, industry insiders believe the model could debut stateside by late 2025.
The EV3 has already made waves globally, topping electric vehicle sales in South Korea in March 2025 and gaining rapid traction across Europe. Lauded for its compact size, affordability, and tech-forward design, the EV3 delivers a smooth, quiet ride, minus the oil changes or high fuel costs. Analysts estimate the average EV owner in the U.S. saves over $1,000 per year in fuel and maintenance.
With a projected starting price between $35,000 and $40,000, the EV3 is expected to challenge gas-powered rivals in both cost and sustainability. Though concerns persist about the environmental toll of battery production, studies like one from MIT show EVs emit far less carbon over their lifetime. The average electric car produces 200g of CO₂ per mile, nearly 40% less than traditional gasoline models. According to MIT, a Tesla Model 3 surpasses the environmental efficiency of a Toyota Corolla after just 13,500 miles.
Kia’s move comes as legacy automakers like Chevrolet and Jeep also accelerate their EV rollouts.
Meanwhile, clean energy advocates stress that while mineral extraction for EVs is a concern, it pales in comparison to the 16 billion tons of fossil fuels extracted globally each year — the bulk of which are burned and lost forever.
Online reactions to the EV3 sighting reflect growing consumer enthusiasm. One Reddit user exclaimed, “Stoked,” while another said, “Crossing my fingers for this and hoping that my current car holds out long enough.”
