The automotive industry has witnessed a surge in car recalls in recent years, attributed largely to the increased complexity of vehicles with electronic components. According to an ABC News analysis of government data and expert interviews, the average number of car recalls per year rose by 46% over the 10 years ending in 2022, compared to the previous decade.
Car recalls occur when manufacturers identify technical, physical, or other issues that could compromise driver safety. These issues are typically discovered during production or after common warranty claims. As cars have evolved from traditional petrol vehicles to electric and solar-powered ones, new challenges have emerged.
Ensuring customer safety is paramount for manufacturers and governments alike. As a result, automotive manufacturers have introduced modern safety features to enhance vehicle safety and reduce car recalls. One such innovative company is GAC Motors, a Chinese company known for its innovative approach to car manufacturing.
According to Jubril Arogundade, Group Head of Communication at GAC Motors Nigeria, “GAC combines Japanese technology, German design, American innovation, and Chinese craftsmanship and industrial prowess.” He added, “Our vision for GAC in Nigeria is to develop a brand that will become a national carrier. Every Nigerian will have the confidence to buy a brand-new car.”
Discussing the quality and technology of GAC vehicles, Arogundade stated, “Every GAC vehicle in Nigeria is of the same quality, technology, and features as those in Dubai, Russia, and China. We offer different variants—GE, GB, and GL—for different preferences, but each version maintains the same specifications.”
“We have a very strong Quality Control (QC) process for the assembling of our vehicles, so there’s no need to recall any car that leaves our factory,” Arogundade said. He described a recent event where the government launched the 2000th car assembled by GAC, showcasing the factory’s value chain. From the assembly of the chassis to the testing of components like tyre pressure and body, GAC’s factory in Ogba operates at a world-class standard.
Furthermore, Arogundade said that the quality of GAC cars assembled in Nigeria is equivalent to those in China, as every car undergoes a rigorous qualification process. “This process ensures that GAC maintains its high standards and reduces the likelihood of calling back any cars due to quality issues,” he added.
“Our factory in Ogba is a world-class facility, where every component of the car undergoes rigorous testing,” Arogundade continued. “Every car that leaves our factory, whether in Ogba or Oworo, meets the same quality standards as those in China. Our meticulous QC process ensures that it’s highly unlikely for us to recall any GAC car due to the rigorous quality checks in place.”
GAC Motors’ commitment to innovation, quality, and safety sets it apart in the Nigerian automotive industry. With a focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement, GAC is poised to make a lasting impact on the automotive landscape in Nigeria and beyond.
