Essex Police’s Stolen Vehicle Intelligence Unit (SVIU) has successfully located and restored two luxury vehicles stolen from undisclosed Premier League footballers. The recovered cars, identified as a Ferrari Roma and a Range Rover Sport, were discovered inside shipping containers scheduled for transport from London Gateway Port in Thurrock to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The SVIU’s diligent efforts have led to the retrieval of these stolen assets, adding to the unit’s impressive track record of recovering a total of 517 vehicles or vehicle parts valued at over £16 million in 2023 alone.

SVIU has shed light on the typical post-theft practices employed by criminals. Once a vehicle is stolen, perpetrators often attempt to sell it well below market value within the UK. Alternatively, stolen cars find their way to regions such as the Middle East and Africa, where they can be sold for double or even triple the UK market price.

PC Paul Gerrish of SVIU emphasized the unit’s commitment to reuniting stolen vehicles with their rightful owners. He expressed the satisfaction derived from notifying individuals that their vehicles, complete with personal belongings like car seats and baby gear, had been recovered.

“Our pursuit of car thieves creates an unwelcoming atmosphere for them. We possess the knowledge to identify their activities and locations of operation,” PC Gerrish stated confidently.

PC Phil Pentelow recounted a heartening incident where one of the footballers arrived at the SVIU’s headquarters to reclaim his retrieved vehicle. The player commended the unit’s diligent efforts, expressing genuine gratitude for their dedication to recovering his cherished car. Despite representing a rival team, the footballer’s admiration for the SVIU’s service and approachable demeanour was evident, fostering a sense of camaraderie.

The successful recovery of these luxury vehicles serves as a testament to the SVIU’s relentless pursuit of justice and safeguarding valuable assets.
