Cadillac has taken a bold step into the future of electric mobility with the launch of its 2026 Optiq-V, a luxury electric SUV that marks a major milestone for General Motors.
For the first time, a GM vehicle will feature Tesla’s NACS (North American Charging Standard), the same port used by Tesla vehicles, giving Optiq-V owners seamless access to more than 15,000 Supercharger stations across North America.
This integration eliminates the need for adapters and expands convenience for EV drivers, a key advantage in a market still battling range anxiety.
“Integrating the native NACS port into our vehicle architecture is an important step forward,” said John Cockburn, Chief Engineer at GM. “It reflects our leadership in engineering and our commitment to offering customers more charging options.”
GM first announced its plan to adopt NACS in 2022, joining major automakers like Ford, Rivian, and Volvo. The move is part of GM’s wider transition toward electrification as it aims to phase out combustion engines by 2035.
Performance Meets Sustainability
Beyond charging innovation, the Optiq-V boasts performance figures that rival some of the best electric SUVs in its class. Powered by a 519-horsepower dual-motor setup delivering 650 lb-ft of torque, the SUV sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, according to Cadillac’s own tests.
Its 85 kWh battery pack delivers an estimated 278 miles of range per charge, blending speed, comfort, and efficiency. Pricing starts at $67,300, positioning the Optiq-V as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y Performance and BMW iX.
Driving the future forward
Electric vehicles remain a cornerstone of cleaner, more sustainable mobility. EVs cost less to run, require fewer maintenance visits, and significantly cut down on harmful emissions linked to global warming.
While manufacturing still produces carbon output, studies show EVs emit up to 50% less CO₂ over their lifetime than traditional petrol vehicles. The shift to electric cars could reduce global fossil fuel extraction, currently around 16.5 billion tons per year, and pave the way for greener transport systems worldwide.
With the Optiq-V, Cadillac isn’t just launching another electric SUV. It’s sending a clear signal that luxury, power, and sustainability can coexist in the next era of driving.
