Bombardier is preparing to launch the Global 8000, the world’s fastest purpose-built civilian aircraft since the Concorde. The ultra-long-range business jet is expected to enter service this year, with final assembly now underway at the company’s Toronto Aircraft Assembly Center.

The Global 8000 boasts a top speed of Mach 0.94 and an impressive range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,816 km). That’s faster and farther than any business jet currently on the market, offering non-stop flights from London to Perth or Singapore to Los Angeles. During flight testing in 2021, the aircraft even broke the sound barrier, reaching Mach 1.015; a rare feat in civilian aviation today.

With a starting price of $81 million, the Global 8000 is targeting elite corporate and private clients. NetJets, the world’s largest fractional jet ownership company, is confirmed as the launch customer. Bombardier’s senior vice president of engineering, Stephen McCullough, described the aircraft as “the fastest and longest-range purpose-built business aircraft ever built.”

Ultra-luxury meets engineering precision

The Global 8000 features the same spacious fuselage as its predecessor, the Global 7500, but with superior performance metrics. The aircraft includes a four-zone cabin layout, 2,637 cubic feet of space, and next-generation features like zero-gravity Nuage recliner seats, circadian rhythm lighting, and a master suite—all engineered to reduce fatigue and enhance in-flight wellness.

The jet retains the 7500’s innovative Smooth Flex Wing design, which improves aerodynamics and reduces fuel consumption. Engineers also increased the 8000’s range without adding extra fuel tanks, instead refining engine software to deliver more thrust efficiently.

Thanks to its lower cabin altitude of 2,900 feet, passengers will experience less pressure-related discomfort during long-haul flights. Bombardier says this jet unlocks over 1,000 new city pairs globally, offering ultra-long-haul travel with fewer compromises.

A Game-Changer in Private Aviation

Competing against industry giants like the Gulfstream G700 and Dassault Falcon 10X, Bombardier’s Global 8000 stands out not just in range and speed but also in passenger comfort. Its cabin is nearly eight feet longer than the Gulfstream G800, despite offering a similar range.

The 8000 also has an edge in versatility. It can land at airports with shorter runways than most of its class rivals, expanding travel flexibility. With over 100 speed records already held by its predecessor, the Global

7500, expectations are high for the new model to rewrite more record books.

Bombardier has confirmed the aircraft has completed numerous international test flights and is on track for delivery before the end of 2025.
