BMW has unveiled its most powerful rear-wheel-drive M car yet, the 2026 M2 CS. With 523 horsepower, a top speed of 188 mph, and a 0–60 time of just 3.7 seconds, this compact performance coupe is anything but subtle.
The M2 CS is built for enthusiasts craving raw performance in a smaller, track-ready package. Under the hood is a tuned version of BMW’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six, delivering 479 lb-ft of torque. That’s 50 hp more than the standard M2 and a 79 hp jump over the last-generation CS model.
BMW fans will notice the lack of a manual transmission, a controversial move, as nearly half of M2 buyers opt for stick shifts. The CS variant only comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, sending all that power to the rear wheels. BMW says the change boosts performance, making the CS the quickest M2 ever built.
Despite the added power and tech, BMW managed to reduce weight. At 3,770 pounds, the M2 CS is 44 pounds lighter than the standard auto model. This was achieved through the use of a carbon fiber roof, mirror caps, and rear diffuser, along with forged lightweight wheels. The chassis and suspension have been recalibrated to handle the extra muscle and enhance track performance.
From the outside, the M2 CS keeps its aggressive, muscular stance but adds sharper sculpting and a carbon ducktail spoiler. It may look similar to the base model, but it’s built for serious drivers. Priced at $99,775 (destination included), it’s about $30,000 more than the expected price of the base M2 but still undercuts the M4 CS, which starts at $124,675.
