A Chinese aerospace company has taken a bold step toward transforming regional air travel. Aerofugia Technology Co. Ltd. has begun production of the AE200-100, a six-seat electric aircraft designed for vertical takeoff and landing, a move that could reshape the future of mobility.
The AE200-100 operates entirely on battery power, eliminating the need for jet fuel. With eight rotors providing lift and four adjustable wings for forward motion, the eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) craft is designed for short urban and intercity flights. Each flight can travel up to 200 kilometers (124 miles), perfect for fast trips between nearby cities, emergency services, or luxury aerial experiences.
Built from carbon fiber composite, the aircraft is light yet durable. Its electric propulsion reduces noise pollution by more than half compared to traditional helicopters, while producing zero direct emissions. The absence of jet fuel and reduced maintenance needs mean lower operating costs for operators and passengers alike.
The AE200-100 is already turning heads across Asia. Airlines and transport companies in China and Thailand have reportedly placed over 1,000 pre-orders, with all units from the first production run sold out. During flight testing, Aerofugia successfully demonstrated the transition from vertical ascent to forward flight, marking the first time a piloted eVTOL aircraft in China has achieved such a milestone.
Founded in 2020 by Geely Technology Group, Aerofugia has rapidly positioned itself as a leader in sustainable aviation. The project was developed in collaboration with HRC Aviation, focusing on the AE200 family’s research, development, and commercial rollout.
Industry analysts believe aircraft like the AE200-100 could replace private helicopters and even regional jets, offering a quieter, cleaner, and more affordable way to travel. If successful, Aerofugia’s electric aircraft could help cities cut carbon emissions, reduce traffic congestion, and open a new chapter in urban air mobility.
