Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to introduce a luxury electric van tailored for the Chinese market, as revealed by Mathias Geisen, head of the carmaker’s vans division, to German magazine WirtschaftsWoche.
“In essence, it’s a super-luxury variant. We aim to significantly boost our market share in China,” stated Geisen. “In China, the demand for vans is on a steep rise, particularly in the luxury segment.”
While details regarding the van and its launch timing remain undisclosed, Geisen’s remarks shed light on Mercedes-Benz’s strategic move to tap into the flourishing Chinese market.
Confirming the division’s outlook for 2024, Geisen emphasized a targeted margin on sales ranging from 12% to 14%. This announcement precedes the quarterly results slated for April 30.
In the preceding year, Mercedes-Benz Vans set a milestone by selling a record-breaking 447,800 vehicles, achieving an impressive adjusted return on sales of 15.1%.
