Acura and Honda have adopted Tesla’s NACS charging standard. This trend has seen manufacturers like Mercedes, Rivian, Nissan, General Motors, and Ford commit to integrating the NACS technology into their upcoming electric vehicles (EVs), with many aiming to unveil these NACS-compatible models by either 2025 or 2026.

“NACS” (North American Charging Standard) is the method by which Tesla electric cars are charged in North America. It acts like a special code, making sure Teslas are compatible with Tesla charging stations. Other car manufacturers are also adopting this standard for their electric vehicles to enable fast charging.

In a recent interview, the CEO of Honda’s American division revealed that both Honda and Acura are making the transition to the NACS charging standard. However, since these two automakers rely on GM’s Ultium platform for their EVs, the timeline for releasing the first NACS-compatible models hinges on GM’s decisions. Prospective release dates are estimated to fall between 2025 and 2026.

While the Acura ZDX model won’t be able to benefit from this shift, Acura is poised to embrace the NACS standard as soon as GM makes the switch in the upcoming years.

To reduce reliance on external platforms, Honda is actively developing its own EV platform. Additionally, the company has forged partnerships with BMW, GM, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis. Together, they are collaboratively working towards the creation of a more dependable, rapid, and secure charging network spanning North America.
