A driver of a Tesla Semi truck claimed to have been driving the electric truck for the first time, was interviewed by a Tesla fan and Reddit user. According to the driver, he had only an hour of training before driving the truck, and although he wasn’t trained on Tesla Autopilot, he almost certainly had a license to drive semi-trucks. The driver had positive words about the truck, despite the little time he had spent using it.
Tesla has been secretive about the details of the electric Semis, which were delivered to PepsiCo and its subsidiary Frito-Lay. Tesla initially unveiled the Class 8 hauler’s specs, but there have been few official details since then. Recently, some of the Tesla Semis seen broken down on the side of the road were suspected to have had a touch-screen glitch, but there has been no confirmation from Tesla.
The Tesla Semi driver’s interview sheds some light on the driving experience and training required to operate the electric truck. While Tesla’s Autopilot feature was not a part of his training, driving the hauler shouldn’t differ much from driving any Class 8 truck. Despite the lack of official information on the Semis, the driver’s positive experience with the vehicle bodes well for Tesla’s foray into the electric truck market.
