It has been twenty-five years since Hong Kong International Airport relocated from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Lok. To commemorate this milestone, celebrations were held in Terminal 1, including performances by drum groups, jazz bands, and dance acts by airport staff. A cake-cutting ceremony added to the festivities.
In an exciting announcement, the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) revealed that 80,000 free air tickets will be given away to Hong Kong residents. As a support measure during the pandemic, AAHK had purchased 500,000 tickets in 2020 and distributed some through the “World of Winners” campaign. Now, local residents have the opportunity to receive round-trip tickets to various destinations in Asia.
The move to the new airport in 1998 has proven to be a wise decision, with Hong Kong International Airport experiencing significant growth in passenger numbers over the years. Despite recent challenges, the airport remains committed to future expansion, including the three-runway system and the SKYCITY mega project, which aims to create an airport city serving the Greater Bay Area.
