Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 850,000 vehicles across the United States due to a potential fuel pump failure that could cause engines to stall unexpectedly. The defect, affecting multiple models, poses a serious safety risk, particularly during high-speed driving or in extreme temperatures.

The issue stems from low-pressure fuel pumps that may fail to deliver adequate fuel from the tank to the engine. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), such a failure could cause a sudden loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash.

NHTSA reported six consumer complaints citing power loss due to this fault. Warning signs include engine misfires, rough idling, reduced acceleration, or an illuminated check engine light. Failures are more likely to occur in hot weather or when fuel levels are low.

The recall affects select 2018–2022 models of the Ford F-150, Mustang, and Lincoln Aviator, among others. Ford estimates that around 10% of the recalled vehicles may actually have the defect. The company is still working on a repair solution, which will be provided free of charge once finalized.

Ford owners can expect to receive notification letters by mail in the coming weeks. Until then, drivers are advised to keep their fuel tanks adequately filled and avoid extreme heat where possible. This recall is part of Ford’s ongoing effort to improve vehicle reliability and customer safety.
