Mercedes-Benz, a german auto manufacturer recently announced plans to build 400,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging network to optimise customer experience.
According to the carmaker, the new charging network will be called “Mercedes me Charge” and will be available to consumers in Europe, the United States, and Canada. The Mercedes Charge network will comprise over 400,000 charging points across numerous nations, with the ability to charge at up to 350 kW. This high charging capability will allow Mercedes EV customers to charge their vehicles in minutes rather than hours. The network will also be offered to non-Mercedes EV owners, giving greater charging alternatives for all EV users.
The charging network will be operated by a number of companies, including Ionity, a collaboration of numerous manufacturers aiming to construct a pan-European high-power charging network. Mercedes will also collaborate with other energy companies to build the network.
In addition to the charging network, Mercedes will introduce a new function called “Intelligent Charge,” which will allow consumers to organise and pay for charging sessions using their Mercedes me account. The functionality will also provide information on the availability and location of charging outlets, as well as the cost of charging.
The Mercedes me Charge network is part of the company’s bigger ambition to become carbon-neutral by 2039. The manufacturer intends to offer electrified versions of all of its models by 2022 and to have sold more than one million electric vehicles by 2025. Mercedes is aiming to make the EV ownership experience more convenient and efficient for its consumers by developing its own charging network.
